Which number should you use?

Use the rule of the board or university that issued your CGPA. The lowest figure here is 70.45% (Mumbai University) and the highest is 87% (Dibrugarh University). That gap is too big to pick a rule at random.

If your marksheet prints a percentage, use the printed one. If a form needs an official figure, ask your university for a conversion certificate.

A common mistake

Many people multiply by 9.5 for every CGPA. That is the CBSE Class 10 rule. For a university degree it can be wrong by several points.

Worked example

Example. Your CGPA is 8.2.

Under CBSE, 9.5 x 8.2 = 77.9%. Under a factor of 10, it is 82%. Under VTU, (8.2 - 0.75) x 10 = 74.5%.
