Dibrugarh University CGPA to percentage

This page covers the post graduate conversion in the 2021 notification. Enter your CGPA.

Short answer. A Dibrugarh University notification of 24 May 2021 sets, for PG students of 2009 to 2020, Percentage = 10 x CGPA + 5 for CGPA of 5.5 or more (maximum 100). A CGPA of 7.2 gives 77%.

The official formula

Percentage = 10 x CGPA + 5 for CGPA of 5.5 or more (maximum 100); Percentage = 10 x CGPA for CGPA from 4.5 to below 5.5

The notification gives two lines for post graduate CBCS students. (a) Percentage = CGPA x 10 + 5 for CGPA of 5.5 and above, with a maximum of 100. (b) Percentage = CGPA x 10 for CGPA from 4.5 up to but below 5.5.

Where it comes from

The notification is numbered DU/DR-A/8-1/122AC/21/625 and dated 24 May 2021, issued by the Office of the Registrar. It follows Resolution No. 02 of the 122nd (Special and Online) Academic Council meeting. The Council approved changes to clauses 10.2.4 and 10.2.5 of the Dibrugarh University Regulations for the Post Graduate Programmes in the Choice Based Credit System, 2018, which changed the grading system and the conversion formula.

Who it applies to

It applies to post graduate students who completed their studies at Dibrugarh University in CBCS mode between 2009 and 2020. It does not cover undergraduate students or later batches. We read only this notification.

How to use the tool

Type your CGPA in the box. The tool shows the percentage and a short table of nearby values. Always compare the answer with your marksheet or a certificate from the Dibrugarh University office, because only they can give the official figure.

Things to watch

The tool shows Not defined below a CGPA of 4.5, because the notification gives no formula for that range.

The cap of 100 means very high CGPAs cannot give more than 100%.

Because of the added 5, this is among the more generous rules in this series. At a CGPA of 8.0 it gives 85%.

Going the other way

Forms often ask for a minimum percentage. Under the Dibrugarh University rule on this page, 60% needs a CGPA of about 5.50; 70% needs a CGPA of about 6.50; 75% needs a CGPA of about 7.00. These are plain reversals of the formula. They show what CGPA you would need to clear a percentage cut-off, but the form may ask for the university's own certificate.

How it compares

At a CGPA of 7.2, the Dibrugarh University rule gives 77%. For the same number, CBSE gives 68.4%, VTU gives 64.5%, JNTUH gives 67%. The spread is the reason to use only the rule of the body that gave you the CGPA. Our CGPA to percentage hub lists every rule we have checked.

Worked example

Example. A Dibrugarh University student has a CGPA of 7.2.

10 x 7.2 + 5 = 77.00%.

Questions

Why does this formula add 5?

The notification states it. It does not explain the reason in the text we read.

Does it cover undergraduate students?

No. The notification names post graduate programmes in CBCS mode from 2009 to 2020.

What happens at a CGPA of 9.6?

10 x 9.6 + 5 = 101, which is above the maximum. The notification caps the result at 100.

Is this the official Dibrugarh University conversion?

It follows the document linked on this page, which we read on 2026-10-10. For a certificate or a form that needs the official figure, ask the Dibrugarh University office.

Can I use the Dibrugarh University formula for another university?

No. Each board and university sets its own rule. At a CGPA of 8.0 the rules in this series give anything from 69% to 85%. Use the page for your own university.

What if my marksheet shows both a CGPA and a percentage?

Use the percentage on the marksheet. It is the university's own figure, and it overrides any conversion from a tool.
