Short answer. Anna University's UD regulations of 2019 and 2023 say: % of Marks = CGPA x 10, printed on the consolidated grade sheet. A CGPA of 8.3 gives 83%.
The official formula
Percentage = CGPA x 10
Clause 21.10 of the 2023 regulations states that the percentage of marks shall be printed in the consolidated grade sheet from the CGPA, using % of Marks = CGPA x 10. Clause 13.5 of the amended 2019 regulations gives the same rule. The 2023 regulations set First Class with Distinction at a CGPA of 8.50 or more and First Class at 6.50 or more, each with extra conditions such as passing in the first attempt.
Where it comes from
Both documents are on the Centre for Academic Courses website of Anna University. The 2023 regulations (Revision 1) were digitally signed on 18 November 2024. The 2019 regulations carry clause 13.5 as an inserted amendment.

Who it applies to
These regulations cover B.E. and B.Tech students in the University Departments: CEG, ACT and MIT. We could not open the regulations for affiliated colleges, so we do not confirm the rule for them. Calculator sites give the same CGPA x 10 rule for those colleges.
How to use the tool
Type your CGPA in the box. The tool shows the percentage and a short table of nearby values. Always compare the answer with your marksheet or a certificate from the Anna University office, because only they can give the official figure.
Things to watch
Your consolidated grade sheet prints the percentage. Use that number first.
If you study at an affiliated college, check your own regulation year. We confirmed the rule only for the University Departments.
First Class with Distinction needs more than the CGPA. Read clause 21 of your regulations for the conditions.
Going the other way
Forms often ask for a minimum percentage. Under the Anna University rule on this page, 60% needs a CGPA of about 6.00; 70% needs a CGPA of about 7.00; 75% needs a CGPA of about 7.50. These are plain reversals of the formula. They show what CGPA you would need to clear a percentage cut-off, but the form may ask for the university's own certificate.
How it compares
At a CGPA of 8.3, the Anna University rule gives 83%. For the same number, CBSE gives 78.85%, VTU gives 75.5%, JNTUH gives 78%. The spread is the reason to use only the rule of the body that gave you the CGPA. Our CGPA to percentage hub lists every rule we have checked.

Questions
What is the Anna University CGPA to percentage formula?
The R2019 and R2023 regulations for the University Departments give % of Marks = CGPA x 10. A CGPA of 8.0 gives 80%.
What CGPA is first class with distinction at Anna University?
The 2023 regulations set 8.50 or more, with extra conditions such as passing every course at the first attempt.
Do I need a conversion certificate?
The percentage is printed on the consolidated grade sheet, so most students do not need a separate certificate.
Is this the official Anna University conversion?
It follows the document linked on this page, which we read on 2026-10-10. For a certificate or a form that needs the official figure, ask the Anna University office.
Can I use the Anna University formula for another university?
No. Each board and university sets its own rule. At a CGPA of 8.0 the rules in this series give anything from 69% to 85%. Use the page for your own university.
What if my marksheet shows both a CGPA and a percentage?
Use the percentage on the marksheet. It is the university's own figure, and it overrides any conversion from a tool.
