JNTUH CGPA to percentage

Enter your JNTUH CGPA. The tool subtracts 0.5 and multiplies by 10, as clause 11.2 states.

Short answer. JNTUH R22 B.Tech regulations, clause 11.2, say the percentage of marks equal to the final CGPA may be found as (final CGPA - 0.5) x 10. A CGPA of 7.8 gives 73%.

The official formula

Percentage = (CGPA - 0.5) x 10

Clause 11.2 says: for final percentage of marks equivalent to the computed final CGPA, the following formula may be used. % of Marks = (final CGPA - 0.5) x 10.

Where it comes from

The clause is in the Revised Academic Regulations for the B.Tech programme, R22, including evaluation of mandatory courses, published by JNTUH. It sits under the heading Declaration of results, next to the rules for computing SGPA and CGPA.

We read the source on 2026-10-10 and checked it on that date.

Who it applies to

This applies to the final CGPA of a B.Tech student under the R22 regulations. A newer R25 document exists on the JNTUH site. We could not open it, so we do not state what it says. Check it if you are in a later batch.

How to use the tool

Type your CGPA in the box. The tool shows the percentage and a short table of nearby values. Always compare the answer with your marksheet or a certificate from the JNTUH office, because only they can give the official figure.

Things to watch

The clause says the formula may be used. It does not say it must be used, so an employer or college may ask for the university's own certificate.

It is written for the final CGPA. The clause does not say whether it also covers a semester SGPA.

Compare with VTU. At a CGPA of 8.0, JNTUH gives 75% and VTU gives 72.5%. The two universities do not share a formula.

Going the other way

Forms often ask for a minimum percentage. Under the JNTUH rule on this page, 60% needs a CGPA of about 6.50; 70% needs a CGPA of about 7.50; 75% needs a CGPA of about 8.00. These are plain reversals of the formula. They show what CGPA you would need to clear a percentage cut-off, but the form may ask for the university's own certificate.

How it compares

At a CGPA of 7.8, the JNTUH rule gives 73%. For the same number, CBSE gives 74.1%, VTU gives 70.5%. The spread is the reason to use only the rule of the body that gave you the CGPA. Our CGPA to percentage hub lists every rule we have checked.

Worked example

Example. A JNTUH student has a CGPA of 7.8.

(7.8 - 0.5) x 10 = 73.00%.

Questions

Is the JNTUH formula the same as VTU?

No. JNTUH subtracts 0.5 and VTU subtracts 0.75, before multiplying by 10. A CGPA of 8.0 gives 75% at JNTUH and 72.5% at VTU.

Does the JNTUH rule apply to older regulations such as R18?

We read only the R22 text. We do not state what earlier regulations say.

What CGPA gives 60%?

Solve (CGPA - 0.5) x 10 = 60. The CGPA is 6.5.

Is this the official JNTUH conversion?

It follows the document linked on this page, which we read on 2026-10-10. For a certificate or a form that needs the official figure, ask the JNTUH office.

Can I use the JNTUH formula for another university?

No. Each board and university sets its own rule. At a CGPA of 8.0 the rules in this series give anything from 69% to 85%. Use the page for your own university.

What if my marksheet shows both a CGPA and a percentage?

Use the percentage on the marksheet. It is the university's own figure, and it overrides any conversion from a tool.
