BPUT CGPA to percentage

Enter your BPUT CGPA. The tool subtracts 0.50 and multiplies by 10, the rule in the 2012 university notice.

Short answer. BPUT Notice No. 1717, dated 16 May 2012, gives Equivalent Percentage of Mark = (CGPA - 0.50) x 10. A CGPA of 7.8 gives 73%.

The official formula

Percentage = (CGPA - 0.50) x 10

The notice states: Equivalent Percentage of Mark = (CGPA - 0.50) x 10. It says BPUT uses a seven point grading system on a base of 10, and that the university does not award marks or a class or division. Organisations and individuals may use the formula at their discretion.

Where it comes from

The notice is numbered BPUT/1717 and dated 16 May 2012, signed by the Registrar. It partly changes the earlier Notice No. 358 of 2 February 2012. It follows the 18th Academic Council meeting of 7 April 2012 and the 18th Board of Management meeting of 17 April 2012. It is linked from the BPUT home page.

Who it applies to

The notice does not name a course or regulation year. It is written for all students of the university.

How to use the tool

Type your CGPA in the box. The tool shows the percentage and a short table of nearby values. Always compare the answer with your marksheet or a certificate from the BPUT office, because only they can give the official figure.

Things to watch

BPUT does not award a class or division, so the notice gives no class bands.

The highest result is 95%, at a CGPA of 10. That is how the rule is written.

At a CGPA of 8.0 this rule gives 75%, the same as GTU, JNTUH and DBATU.

Going the other way

Forms often ask for a minimum percentage. Under the BPUT rule on this page, 60% needs a CGPA of about 6.50; 70% needs a CGPA of about 7.50; 75% needs a CGPA of about 8.00. These are plain reversals of the formula. They show what CGPA you would need to clear a percentage cut-off, but the form may ask for the university's own certificate.

How it compares

At a CGPA of 7.8, the BPUT rule gives 73%. For the same number, CBSE gives 74.1%, VTU gives 70.5%, JNTUH gives 73%. The spread is the reason to use only the rule of the body that gave you the CGPA. Our CGPA to percentage hub lists every rule we have checked.

Worked example

Example. A BPUT student has a CGPA of 7.8.

(7.8 - 0.5) x 10 = 73.00%.

Questions

What is the BPUT CGPA to percentage formula?

BPUT Notice No. 1717 of 2012 gives (CGPA - 0.50) x 10. A CGPA of 8.0 gives 75%.

Does BPUT give first class or second class?

No. The notice says the university does not award a class or division.

Is the BPUT formula compulsory for employers?

The notice says organisations may use it at their discretion.

Is this the official BPUT conversion?

It follows the document linked on this page, which we read on 2026-10-10. For a certificate or a form that needs the official figure, ask the BPUT office.

Can I use the BPUT formula for another university?

No. Each board and university sets its own rule. At a CGPA of 8.0 the rules in this series give anything from 69% to 85%. Use the page for your own university.

What if my marksheet shows both a CGPA and a percentage?

Use the percentage on the marksheet. It is the university's own figure, and it overrides any conversion from a tool.
