KTU CGPA to percentage

KTU has issued more than one conversion. Pick the one that matches your scheme and enter your CGPA.

Short answer. For the B.Tech 2019 scheme, a KTU order of 29 June 2023 sets equivalent percentage = 10 x CGPA. It replaced 10 x CGPA - 2.5. An older 2017 proceeding gave 10 x G - 3.75.

The official formula

Percentage = 10 x CGPA (B.Tech 2019 scheme, from the 2023 order)

Three KTU texts appear in our sources. First, order U.O.No. 1584/2023/KTU of 29 June 2023 amends Regulation R6.21 of the B.Tech 2019 regulations so that the equivalent percentage of marks is 10 x CGPA. Second, that order replaces the earlier clause, which was 10 x CGPA - 2.5. Third, Proceedings No. KTU/AR(ACADEMIC-1)/1509/2016 dated 17 May 2017 approved % marks = 10 x G - 3.75, where G is the SGPA or CGPA.

Where it comes from

The 2023 order was issued by the Academic Section of KTU, Thiruvananthapuram, after a resolution of the 23rd Academic Council meeting held on 9 June 2023. The 2017 proceedings cite the Eighth Academic Committee meeting of 29 April 2017. The 2017 document also says that no general formula can convert GPA to percentage exactly, so its formula is an approximation.

Who it applies to

The 2023 order names the B.Tech 2019 scheme. The 2017 proceedings are older and speak of GPA in general. We copy the scheme names from the documents and add no more. If your scheme is different, ask the KTU office which text applies to you.

How to use the tool

Type your CGPA in the box. Pick the formula that matches your scheme first. The tool shows the percentage and a short table of nearby values. Always compare the answer with your marksheet or a certificate from the KTU office, because only they can give the official figure.

Things to watch

Do not mix the formulas. At a CGPA of 7.6, the 2023 rule gives 76%, the 2017 rule gives 72.25% and the replaced 2019 clause gives 73.5%.

The links go to copies of the KTU documents hosted by colleges, because we could not open the originals. The text is KTU's.

Employers sometimes ask for a university certificate. In that case use the number the university prints, not this tool.

Going the other way

Forms often ask for a minimum percentage. Under the KTU rule on this page, 60% needs a CGPA of about 6.00; 70% needs a CGPA of about 7.00; 75% needs a CGPA of about 7.50. These are plain reversals of the formula. They show what CGPA you would need to clear a percentage cut-off, but the form may ask for the university's own certificate.

How it compares

At a CGPA of 7.6, the KTU rule gives 76%. For the same number, CBSE gives 72.2%, VTU gives 68.5%, JNTUH gives 71%. The spread is the reason to use only the rule of the body that gave you the CGPA. Our CGPA to percentage hub lists every rule we have checked.

Worked example

Example. A KTU student has a CGPA of 7.6.

10 x 7.6 = 76.00%.

Questions

Did KTU change its formula?

For the B.Tech 2019 scheme, yes. The order of 29 June 2023 replaced 10 x CGPA - 2.5 with 10 x CGPA.

Why does one KTU rule subtract 3.75?

The 2017 proceedings approved 10 x G - 3.75 after an Academic Committee meeting. They state it is an approximation, because no exact conversion exists.

Which formula should I pick in the tool?

Pick the one that matches your scheme and the date of your document. For B.Tech 2019 students, the 2023 order is the latest text we read.

Is this the official KTU conversion?

It follows the document linked on this page, which we read on 2026-10-10. For a certificate or a form that needs the official figure, ask the KTU office.

Can I use the KTU formula for another university?

No. Each board and university sets its own rule. At a CGPA of 8.0 the rules in this series give anything from 69% to 85%. Use the page for your own university.

What if my marksheet shows both a CGPA and a percentage?

Use the percentage on the marksheet. It is the university's own figure, and it overrides any conversion from a tool.
