Percentage to CGPA

Pick your board or university and enter your percentage. The tool reverses that body's own CGPA to percentage rule.

Short answer. Reverse your university's rule. For CBSE, CGPA = percentage / 9.5. For VTU, CGPA = percentage / 10 + 0.75. For JNTUH, CGPA = percentage / 10 + 0.5. So 75% gives 7.89, 8.25 and 8.0.

How the reverse works

Each university turns CGPA into a percentage with its own formula. To go back, you undo that formula. If the rule is Percentage = 9.5 x CGPA, then CGPA = Percentage / 9.5. If the rule is (CGPA - 0.75) x 10, then CGPA = Percentage / 10 + 0.75.

So the same percentage gives a different CGPA at each university. That is why the tool asks for your board or university first.

When you need it

Most students need this for a form. A job portal or an admissions form asks for a CGPA, but your marksheet shows a percentage. Or a form sets a minimum like 60% and you want to know the CGPA that clears it.

Things to watch

A reversed figure is only as good as the formula. If your marksheet prints both a CGPA and a percentage, use the printed numbers. If a form needs an official CGPA, ask your university office.

Some rules have a cap or a floor. Dibrugarh University, for example, gives no formula below a CGPA of 4.5. The tool says so when a percentage cannot come from the rule you picked.

Do not use the CBSE 9.5 rule for a university degree. It is a CBSE Class 10 rule.

Worked example

Example. A VTU student has 75% and a form asks for a CGPA.

VTU uses (CGPA - 0.75) x 10. Reversed: 75 / 10 + 0.75 = 8.25.

Under CBSE the same 75% gives 75 / 9.5 = 7.89. Under JNTUH it gives 75 / 10 + 0.5 = 8.0.

Questions

How do I convert percentage to CGPA?

Reverse your university's CGPA to percentage rule. For CBSE, CGPA = percentage / 9.5. For VTU, CGPA = percentage / 10 + 0.75. For JNTUH and DBATU, CGPA = percentage / 10 + 0.5.

What CGPA is 75%?

It depends on the rule. 75% gives 7.89 under CBSE, 8.0 under JNTUH and 8.25 under VTU.

What CGPA is 60%?

Under CBSE it is 6.32. Under VTU it is 6.75. Under JNTUH it is 6.5. Use the table on this page for your university.

Is there one formula for every university?

No. Each board and university sets its own rule, so the reverse is different too.

Is the result official?

No. It is an estimate for planning and forms. Only your university can give an official CGPA.
